Join us in welcoming author Alea Ramsey as she shares part of her personal story, When Life Gives you Cancer.
When Life Gives You Cancer is a compelling memoir of Alea Ramsey and her discovery and determination through pediatric cancer. It was written to help other fighters and families struggling to cope with cancer to understand their new circumstances, to cope with the flood of emotions, and to create a new normal. Alea's raw emotion lets the world in to experience her transformation from dancing through life to becoming a passionate advocate for childhood cancer and bearing hope to others.
Alea Ramsey is a Senior at Upper Arlington High School, in Columbus Ohio. She has battled osteosarcoma since she turned 13 years old. She is so much more than a diagnosis. So much more than cancer. Alea has a giving heart that can be seen in her various passions. On September 21, 2020, Alea created a nonprofit organization, Bearing Hope. Her mission is "a kid Bearing Hope to kids with cancer." Her organization provides Hope Bags and "Words of a Warrior" blankets to kids at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Alea lives with her parents, Janette and Sean, her sisters, Emma and Laken, and her brother, Mason. Her four dogs, Linus, Leonardo, Frankie, and Fiona are her biggest fans. She loves volunteering with Special Olympics, and she is the Vice President of her high school's Best Buddies program. Her passion for penguins continues to grow, but so does her advocacy in raising awareness for Childhood Cancer Awareness. She is a fierce force when voicing concerns for creating a more equitable and inclusive environment for those with different abilities and illnesses. When Life Gave Her Lemons Cancer, she made her life sweet. Visit Bearinghope2U.com to learn more.
