Melissa Lennig - Author Visit and Craft Activity

Sticks and Stones: A Kid's Guide to Building and Exploring in the Great Outdoors author Melissa Lennig has loved the outdoors since she was old enough to make her first mud pie. After working as an Outdoor Educator and an Elementary School Counselor, she left the classroom to stay home with her children. While at home, she found herself sharing her love of nature and the outdoors with her kids and started writing about their outdoor play activities and nature crafts on her website, Fireflies and Mud Pies. When she’s not creeking or hiking with her kids, you’ll find her behind the camera taking photographs of her kids, insects, or flowers. Melissa loves to read, garden, and visit museums. This is her first book.

Melissa will lead kids in making their very own rock necklaces to take home, as well as a demonstration of how to build a DIY Bug Hotel. Kids will have the opportunity to test it out with pom poms. The kids featured in the book will be assisting the author in her demonstrations.
