Bryan Loar ascends as the owner of one of the oldest all-children’s bookstores in the U.S.

COLUMBUS, OHIO June 2024–For over 44 years, Cover to Cover has served the Central Ohio community and beyond. Founding owner and former teacher Sally Oddi started Cover to Cover and quickly earned the reputation as the preeminent bookstore for children, parents and teachers. In 2018, educator Melia Wolf reopened the shop at its current location in the historic Mallway district of Upper Arlington. In 2019, Bryan Loar joined the team as the store’s General Manager.

Bryan’s career spans over 17 years in libraries and bookstores. As a former manager in Barnes & Noble subsidiaries (Doubledays, Traveldays, B. Dalton) and head of the children’s department at Borders, Books & Music on the island of Kauai, Bryan led teams of up to 17 employees and spent years focusing on children’s literature. As a degreed librarian, Bryan was the head of knowledge management and a materials library for the U.S. arm of a worldwide design firm and later led the research function of an acclaimed executive search firm. In 2014, Bryan co-founded with fellow librarian Andrea Dixon Cbus Libraries, a passion-project-turned 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Cbus Libraries has gifted over 10,000 books to the Central Ohio community. Bryan earned two undergraduate degrees in History of Art and Italian at The Ohio State University and his Master of Library and Information Science degree at Kent State University. He currently serves on the Ohioana Library Association’s Executive Committee.

“I’m excited to continue Cover to Cover’s extraordinary legacy of serving children, the community and educators. We look forward to growing our regional and national reach with events like the Columbus Book Festival, Ohioana Book Festival and more,” enthused Bryan. Founding owner Sally Oddi remarked, "Columbus has incredible library systems that foster young readers, school systems that value children's literature and parents and families who see family read-alouds as an integral part of their lives. I am thrilled to hear that Bryan will continue to have Cover to Cover connecting them all together." Former owner Melia Wolf added, “I'm honored to have been a part of the legacy of this amazing bookstore that has connected so many young readers to the joy of reading. I am so happy that Cover to Cover will go forward and thrive with Bryan. There's no one more qualified, knowledgeable and passionate to assure Cover to Cover's continued success."
